SK Telecom T1 superstar Lee ‘Faker’ Sang-hyeok revealed how he’s able to master new League of Legends champions so quickly.
Faker has been competing at the highest level since 2013 and is widely considered as one of the best mid-laners in the world. Since his career began there have been many new mid lane champions, yet Faker has amazingly managed to master them all not long after their release.
In a video uploaded to Korizon Esports YouTube channel, the Korean spoke about his ability to master new champions, and explained how he’s able to do it so quickly.
“It’s important to always train in your imagination, during your daily routine” said Faker. It would seem that he not only trains in the game but also in his day to day life, imagining the endless possibilities with new champions.
The SKT1 mid-laner also added: “I’ve always been a fast learner so learning new champions isn’t too difficult for me.” So, while it does take an incredible amount of dedication, training both in and out of game, it helps that Faker is a natural at picking up new skills, which may be something that gives him a small edge over other players.

Later in the interview, Faker stated “The most important thing, as I always say, is your mindset. Having the ability to reflect on yourself and consider how you can improve is the most important thing.”

So, not only does he practice hard and have a natural talent for learning new things, but, he also knows that he’s not perfect and that it is vital to be able to reflect and improve on mistakes.
Faker’s methods look to be working wonderfully well, as he was able to dominate with a relatively new champion, Neeko, in his teams match against Gen.G Esports on July 25. The Korean had a successful showing with Neeko in both games of their 2-0 victory, proving he cannot be underestimated on any champion.
