G2 Esports have finally confirmed the rumored changes to their League of Legends roster, adding long-time rival Rasmus ‘Caps’ Winther from Fnatic.
The European team, who finished third-fourth at Worlds 2018, had been rumoured to be making some changes this off-season as they bid to go one better and win it all in 2019.
Adding Caps means that G2’s own star midlaner Luka ‘Perkz’ Perković has to find a new role on team – specifically, switching to ADC (Attack Damage Carry). Following reports that Caps would be joining the team, Perkz hinted at his own position switch on November 27, tweeting: “It’s looking like I’m not getting a spot on #LEC team as a starting midlaner.”
The stunning move is not the only roster change that G2 announced. They have also confirmed that former Misfits star Mihael ‘Mikyx’ Mehle will be joining as their support player. Mikyx, who had been a free agent after his contract expired, had also been linked with G2 in earlier reports.
With Perkz switching to ADC, taking the role currently held by Petter ‘Hjarnan’ Freyschuss, G2 are left with a conundrum. The addition of Mikyx takes their roster to six players and means that Hjarnan is the odd man out – leaving him in a position to either leave the team or take up a substitute role.

Securing the services of Caps, arguably the best midlaner in the west, alongside Mikyx means that G2 are seemingly locked and loaded for the new season. The newly-rebranded LEC – League of Legends European Championship – is, however, stacked with talent and it’ll be no easy feat.
G2’s new all-star starting line-up, which will look to capture LEC glory when the Spring Split begins in early 2019, will be:
- Luka ‘Perkz’ Perkovic – ADC
- Martin ‘Wunder’ Hansen – Top
- Rasmus ‘Caps’ Winder – Mid
- Mihael ‘Mikyx’ Mehle – Support
- Marcin ‘Jankos’ Jankowski – Jungle
