G2 Esports star Luka ‘Perkz’ Perković spoke about the changes to Akali in League of Legends patch 10.3, suggesting that the adjustments could have been done better.
Patch 10.3 hit the League of Legends servers on Feb 5, bringing nerfs to quite a few fan-favorite Champions.
Akali was of the most affected characters, receiving changes to her Q, W, and ultimate in an attempt to bring down her power level. As always, there were many discussions around these changes and Perkz explained what Riot should have done.
The G2 star shared his thoughts during a stream on Feb 5. “I think they should have nerfed Akali’s Q damage to minions, and made the [cooldown] one second higher and then nerf her ultimate damage – that’s what made her really [strong], he said, suggesting what would have worked much better, before explaining what had actually happened.
“Her damage was too high – her niche was that she could make nice plays and be mobile… but the problem was her damage was too high.”
“They nerfed her damage, her mobility, and her ult, but they didn’t buff anything, so they just completely f**ked her right now,” said Perkz, hinting that Riot have made a mistake with the Champion’s nerfs.

For those that have not yet read the patch notes, Akali instead had her mobility and damage reduced as her ultimate can now only target champions, rather than any direction, while her Q costs 20 more energy to cast.
Perkz suggested that she won’t be anywhere near as good anymore, but she had been banned in every match in the LEC, LCS, and LCK so far – so it will be interesting to see if teams will continue to ban her, or if someone will attempt to make her work.
The pro scene usually implements patches a week after their release, so it’s possible fans may see Akali in action from Feb 12.
