Riot Games recently announced a new League of Legends-based digital card game titled ‘Legends of Runeterra’, and the game is already available in beta form for some players.
Legends of Runeterra was one of several games announced by Riot during their 10-year anniversary stream for League of Legends, with others including an FPS currently titled ‘Project A’, a fighting game titled ‘Project L’, and a League of Legends Esports Manager game.
Unlike the other titles, however, Legends of Runeterra is actually ready to play immediately, with some fortunate players already getting their hands on the game’s beta.
While some streamers have been given access to the game, you don’t need to be a partner with Riot Games to try it out – the developers are rolling out beta access gradually to players who are pre-registered to play.
In order to get on the list, prospective players simply have to go to the Legends of Runeterra site and sign up with their Riot Account, or create a new one if they haven’t previously played League of Legends or Teamfight Tactics. You can also download the game in advance of getting access.
There’s no word on exactly how many players will be given access or how frequently new waves will join the game, but the sign-up site does state that players can increase their chances by watching the game on Twitch, or playing League of Legends.
In order to be credited for watching, viewers will need to link their Twitch account to their Riot account, which can be done by going to Connections tab in their Twitch account settings.

What is Legends of Runeterra?
Legends of Runeterra is a digital card game in which players can collect cards and build decks to take on opponents in a turn-based battle of strategy.
Like Blizzard’s Hearthstone, which is set in the World of Warcraft universe and features characters, classes, and spells familiar to those that have played the popular MMO, Legends of Runeterra is set in the world of League of Legends.
Runeterra features a variety of different regions, and each region is host to a multitude of champions as well as different types of supporting characters. While decks can feature cards from multiple regions, how players prioritize those regions will help determine their playstyle.
Riot Games haven’t announced a specific date for the title’s full launch yet, stating only that it will be coming in early 2020.
