G2 demolish XL with flawless victory in LEC Summer 2023 Final: Results, schedule & more

The playoff stage of the 2023 LEC Summer Split is officially underway. Here is everything you need to know about the final split of this season in Europe’s top LoL league.

The League of Legends European Championship (LEC) was revamped for the 2023 season and now has a new, three-split format, with matchdays on Saturdays, Sundays, and Mondays. There were also two new teams for LEC fans to follow: Team Heretics, who acquired Misfits Gaming’s slot, and KOI, who merged with Rogue. Unfortunately, neither team has made it to the Season Final.

As the winners of the Winter and Spring splits, respectively, G2 Esports and MAD Lions automatically qualified for the LEC Season Finals. They’ll be joined by EXCEL, SK Gaming, Fnatic, and Team BDS.

G2 Esports went in as the favorites, and they certainly proved they’re the best team in Europe.

G2 vs XL is a rematch of a recent best of 5 that went in G2’s favor, albeit after going the full 5 games with XL making it look very close. However, the final was a one-sided affair where it didn’t look like EXCEL had a chance of winning.

Meanwhile, Team Heretics was eliminated from the Season Finals and Worlds 2023 contention. Jankos has gone as far as considering retirement following their loss.

LEC Summer 2023: Dates, schedule and results

Under the LEC’s new format, the ten teams will faced other during a three-week period in a single round-robin stage. The top eight teams moved on to the next stage, a double-elimination group phase with two groups of four teams.

The group winners and runners-up from the second stage then progressed to the playoffs, also featuring a double-elimination bracket.

The Summer Split took place from June 23 through July 30, with a full week break in the first week of July for Riot Games’ traditional annual mid-year break.

LEC Summer 2023: Teams & rosters

The vast majority of LEC teams remained unchanged from the Spring Split. One of the exceptions is Fnatic, who replaced bot laner Martin ‘Rekkles’ Larsson and support Henk ‘Advienne’ Reijenga.

On June 10, the LEC giants finally confirmed their bot lane for the Summer season. It will be made up of Korean AD Carry Oh ‘Noah’ Hyeon-tae, who joined from Ultraliga side Zero Tenacity, and Polish support Adrian ‘Trymbi’ Trybus, who won LEC Summer 2022 with Rogue.

Fnatic have a new bot lane in Noah and Trymbi

EXCEL have secured the services of Korean jungler Lee ‘Peach’ Min-gyu, a DRX academy graduate, to replace Andrei ‘Xerxe’ Dragomir, while Team Heretics have confirmed the signing of Vincent ‘Vetheo’ Berrié as their new mid laner.
