A League of Legends developer has told a player to “get some coaching” after they complained about their rank and teammates on Reddit.
League of Legends can be a frustrating game. Not only is it highly competitive, but a lot of the time you have to place faith in your four other teammates to not intentionally feed or troll. This is particularly true in ranked, where players are sweating to grind out as much LP as possible, reaching a rank much higher than before.
Of course, when players go down instead of up, it can cause a fair amount of anger. This often leads to rants about matchmaking being bad, teammates trolling them, or their role being far weaker than the others.
And that’s exactly what one support player did regarding their decline in rank in Season 2024. This is a story many have heard before, including a developer from Riot, who offered some sage advice to the struggling player.
Lead gameplay designer on League of Legends Riot Phroxzon took some time to help steer the player in the right direction. They made a point that coaching could be helpful to them, who believed they weren’t doing anything wrong in their games.

“It might help to get some coaching. If you don’t know what you’re doing wrong and you’re plat you’re probably doing hundreds of things wrong per game.” the dev advised.
Other users found their advice hilarious, claiming the dev essentially told the player it was a “skill issue”.
“Based af. Bro literally said it’s a skill issue,” a player howled.
Phroxzon is no stranger to League of Legends either, being in charge of balancing decisions and releasing patch previews on their Twitter page.
