Wrenn and Six is the new participant card unveiled for MTG’s Pro Tour and Worlds 2024, we’ll tell you how to claim it and why exactly it’s so good.
Professional play for MTG is heating up once again, and a great participation prize for 2024 play has been announced.
Wrenn and Six have a fantastic new alt-art version to show off, and Pro Tour and World Championship 2024 players will be treated to a copy to take home.
Fans react to new Pro Tour Wrenn and Six card
Posted to Twitter/X, the version of the card caught a bit of flack from the crowd. One user said, in reference to fan altered cards:
“I still find it wild that Snoopy Goyfs are technically banned, but this is an official Magic card that will see tournament play.”
In response, the original poster added that the entire altered card rule needs to be overhauled.
Another posted a fake mockup of the card done in Microsoft Paint, ridiculing the new design:
One user asked if pro players would even want a card that’s so wildly different from the original art. Looking at the quote retweets as suggested by the original poster, it appears that the divisive nature has also leaked into those invested in the game’s tournament scene.

Why Wrenn and Six is so good in MTG
Wrenn and Six is either a beloved or dreaded MTG card, depending entirely on which player is controlling it at the time. Regardless, its power is without dispute.
This Planeswalker’s first two abilities have broad general use. Returning a land from the grave to the battlefield makes this a great addition to land-based Commander decks like Lord Windgrace. Burn damage to a single target is also useful, getting in some additional chip damage turn-by-turn or taking out a pesky token.
As anyone who’s played against Wrenn and Six will tell you, while this card seems like a decent-value piece, its final ability is nothing short of devastating. Granting all Instants and Sorceries in your grave Retrace opens up your biggest plays to be recast over and over again, as Wrenn and Six’s first ability makes activating Retrace a snap.
Wiping the board over and over, burning for colossal damage, the possibilities are numerous. What’s more, Emblems cannot be interacted with once they are granted, so once this ability triggers there’s very little your opponents can do.
This card will serve any MTG player with a fondness for red and green well, and those on the pro circuit will be able to get their hands on this promo version very soon.
