One Minecraft player has highlighted how the 1.21 update could render one resource utterly useless to collect.
The 1.21 update is a highly anticipated addition to Minecraft, bringing with it two new mobs, some exciting features, structures, and even a Vault for equal loot inside those structures. Naturally, players will have tons to try out in the Snapshots or Betas, or when it comes out in full.
However, with new updates and features, come some dramatic changes to how certain elements work. After all, adding in new blocks can render certain resources entirely useless to collect, which is exactly what one player spotted with Copper.
Minecraft players slam Copper overhaul in 1.21 update
Sharing their thoughts on the Minecraft Reddit, one user explained how “Mojang’s solution to copper not having enough uses, was to make it absolutely pointless to mine.”
They went on to explain that “the only true use for copper is for building and decoration, and you only get an ok amount of it from mining.” However, since it’s only there for a few elements, typically the ore gets ignored, which is why Mojang has created new uses for Copper.
While that’s a great idea, it renders Copper ore practically useless when you find a Trial Chamber, which is filled with the new Copper blocks: “So if someone was planning on using copper in their build why would they mine the ore? They can just find one of these structures and get all the copper they could ever need for a structure.”

Many fans agreed with the player, explaining how they “think it’s over-utilized in the design of the trial chambers more than it’s under-used in other things.” However, they also explained how they’d probably still mine the resource, purely because they don’t want to break down the Trial Chambers.
Others suggested that the new addition could be less broken than many think: “Copper is available in large quantities if you happen to find a chamber. Or less quantities if you’re just mining. Chambers aren’t that easy to find so I think it works ok.”
Interestingly, a lot of the discussion was around uses for Copper, and how it could be heightened to compensate for the rise in resources. “I think the idea is that, much like gold and iron have received many more uses since their original introduction, copper will receive more and more uses as Mojang adds features in the years to come” explained one user.
Another echoed a similar thought process, revealing how they “hope Mojang will overhaul trains, tracks and there could be a lot of use for copper.”
It’s tough to know whether the new Trial Chambers will render Copper ore useless, but as many fans have stated, with more uses and rarer structures, the ore could remain useful long into the future.
