Monster Hunter Now melee players are unhappy with the game’s new Azure Rathalos fight, with many finding they can barely hit it.

Azure Rathalos is the latest flying wyvern to be added to Monster Hunter Now. Unlike regular Rathalos, this deadly subspecies is known for its aerial attacks and high mobility. While this isn’t a problem in mainline titles like Monster Hunter World, there’s very little melee players can do to counter Azure Rathalos.

Usually, Hunters have access to Flashpods/Flash Bombs that can temporarily knock Azure Rathalos out of the sky, but in MHN, there’s no such item. In fact, many melee users have slammed the fight as a “joke” and believe it’s purely geared toward the game’s Bow players.

“And therein lies the REAL problem with this game – the timer. Niantic’s weird obsession with limiting players to time limits has sucked the soul out of this Monster Hunter game,” explained one player. “Especially since some of these monsters still act like you have 50 minutes to kill them (even though they only have a fraction of their normal HP).

Many Hunters find Azure Rathalos tricky to fight as he spends most of the fight airborne, making landing melee hits difficult. When this is paired with the time limitation and lack of Flashpods, it can make for a pretty frustrating fight for melee players.

Azure Rathalos flying Azure Rathalos is proving difficult for melee players.

“I beat him a couple of times with SnS but I’m with you,” agreed one Hunter. “F*ck melee in this game, it’s just not worth it. Switching to Bow slowly but steadily and the game was never easier and safer. I’m getting used to gyro too.”

Despite the nerfs to range during the winter update, Bow remains the best weapon in Monster Hunter Now – an area many melee players have been vocal about. “How am I supposed to beat it if I can’t hit it for 80% of the fight? F*ck bows and the actual f*cking need to use them. I want to use melee, so let me,” said one frustrated player

“Yeah, monsters like that are a joke, melee users? what a nightmare….. nice balance,” replied another Hunter. Either way, it looks as though melee users will have their work cut out when Azure Rathalos receives its rate up boost this weekend.
