Brutality is a signature combat staple that is back in Mortal Kombat 1. While a Brutality might lack the pizzazz of a Fatality, it can be just as deadly and definitive. Each character has a few to unlock too, so let’s run through the concept and see how you can perform one.

Once you’ve fought tooth and nail to claim victory in your MK1 fight, it’s time to decide how you want to dish out the final damage. After throwing out Fatal Blows and long-winded kombos with the aid of Kameos, the words “FINISH HIM,” will light up the screen.

Now, a Fatality is a traditional and widely recognized way of settling a dispute. You can also drop a cheeky taunt if you so desire.

But another way of asserting your dominance is to drop a Brutality. Whereas the Fatality takes the fame and the fortune, the Brutality is straight to the point and does exactly what it says on the tin.

The game has a ton of Brutalities to master, so let’s give you a brief walkthrough.

How to do an MK1 Brutality

To do the most common Brutality – The Klassic – in Mortal Kombat 1, you need to land an uppercut as the match-winning move, but you have to make sure to hold the uppercut button down as you do it.

If you perform an uppercut, but, for instance, don’t hold the Triangle button down on PlayStation as you do it, then you will only do a normal uppercut without the Brutality animation and presentation to go along with it.

We should also point out that if you do this at the end of a normal round, the first one for example, and it doesn’t end the match, then this will not result in a Brutality. It has to be the final move of the entire match.

How to unlock more Brutalities in MK1

Mortal Kombat 1 users need to keep using a specific character, or Kameo, and level them up to obtain new Brutalities.

Every main roster character has a handful of extra Brutalities on top of The Klassic. So, if you have a favorite fighter to use, we suggest you keep using them and dishing out Fatalities and brutalities to speed up the level-increase process.

Many players struggle with performing a Brutality in Mortal Kombat 1. On the ‘Finishers’ screen on the Move List, Brutalities will have specific prompts on display that need to be inputted. However, there is actually more you need to do.
