Fans of Britney Spears streamed her 2011 single “Selfish” so much that it bumped Justin Timberlake’s new release down on the music charts.
After details about Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake’s past relationship were revealed in her 2023 memoir “The Woman in Me,” Timberlake diverted to his music, having just released his first single since 2018.
However, when his new single “Selfish” finally dropped, fans of Spears steamed her 2011 song of the same name so much that his new release was bumped down on iTunes.
Sources close to Timberlake have since commented that he’s just happy to be making music and booking performances like his recent appearance on SNL this past weekend.
Britney Spears song from 2011 tops Justin Timberlake’s new single on iTunes Top 40
Timberlake released his new single “Selfish” on Thursday, January 25. However, fans of Spears decided to stream her song also titled “Selfish” in hopes of dethroning his number one spot on iTunes Top 40.
Spears fans streamed her song from 2011 so much that by Friday, January 26, it was in the #1 spot on iTunes Top 40, while Timberlake’s was down at #3.

The petty move wasn’t out of nowhere, though, as Spears fans were only showing their support after she claimed in her memoir released last October that Timberlake persuaded her to have an abortion during their iconic relationship in 1999.
Though Timberlake hasn’t publicly commented on Spears’ memoir or his new single dropping below his exes on iTunes, sources close to him told PageSix, “He’s very happy to be performing again and working on new music. He’s all about having a good time right now.”
Though Timberlake is back in the music scene, Spears said about a month ago that she’s done making music after her ‘traumatic’ 13-year-long conservatorship which ended in 2021.
However, the consistent support for Spears just might be enough to see her hit the charts again with a new song. Only time will tell.
