Various posts quickly spawned across Twitter/X. Predominantly, the buzz has focused around it being a reference to her actor ex-boyfriend Joe Alwyn: “Fortnight is a reference to the video game Joe would play all day because he was unemployed.”
With the artist having had a long history of writing songs influenced by her previous romantic relationships, fans have also speculated that this was not the only track about the British actor.
Following her “London Boy” song from 2019, regarding her previous relationship with Alwyn, the track titled “So Long London” was revealed to feature on The Tortured Poets Department. Many have suspected that this, along with the album’s title allegedly inspired by Alwyn’s group chat called “The Tortured Man Club,” is a direct reference.
Taylor Swift’s 11th studio album, The Tortured Poets Department, is set to release on April 19, 2024.
