Michael Thomas is no stranger to controversy on social media. As a long-time X user, Thomas is known for throwing shade at anyone. He’s an equal-opportunity trash talker.
On Thursday, New Orleans Saints beat writer Jeff Duncan announced the team’s intention of releasing Michael Thomas ahead of NFL free agency.
Releasing Thomas comes with a $20 million dead cap charge, but it would save the front office north of $10 million in available cap space this off-season.
Duncan reported that Thomas, an eight-year NFL veteran, has played his last game with the franchise. And the former All-Pro took exception to this story.
Michael Thomas demolishes Saints reporter on social media
Thomas went on a social media tirade after Duncan’s report hit the airwaves. In a rant with personal attacks smattered throughout, the soon-to-be former Saint didn’t hold back.
In the first post, Thomas sent out a picture of Duncan to his 490,000 followers on X. With an emoji, he called the reporter a clown.
Thomas then proceeded to call Duncan a “hoe” and said that the articles he writes “never end up being true.”

However, in the same post, Thomas seemingly admitted that the leak was legitimate, throwing some backhanded shade at the Saints on his way out the door.
Thomas has called out former and current teammates, spoken about the front office, and berated media members in the past. This most recent incident won’t surprise New Orleans fans.
He just turned 31 years old, but the veteran wideout hasn’t appeared in more than ten games during a single season since 2019.
Given his injury history and tendency to overshare on social media, Thomas might have difficulty landing a lucrative deal.
Instead, expect the Ohio State alum to seek a one-year deal with a Super Bowl contender. A locker room like Kansas City Chiefs and Baltimore Ravens could keep Thomas’ outbursts in check.
