Activision Blizzard will be increasing the number of developers working on Overwatch in 2019, according to a new release from the company.
On Tuesday, February 12, Activision Blizzard held their Q4 2018 Earnings Call with stockholders and discussed several of their flagship franchises, including Overwatch.
While the game developer also announced a large number of layoffs on the same day, it appears development teams for various games won’t be affected.
In fact, Activision Blizzard announced that the development team for Overwatch would increase by as much as 20 percent in 2019.
Other games like CandyCrush, Warcraft, Hearthstone, Call of Duty and Diablo would also see their dev teams increase by the same amount.
On Tuesday’s earnings call, Blizzard said it had “a lot of new ideas for Overwatch” and added that “the Overwatch you know is just a small part of the overall franchise,” according to esports journalist Rod ‘Slasher’ Breslau.

No specific details were given on what these “new ideas” for Overwatch are, it could be anything from a movie to some kind of single-player campaign, or even more Overwatch LEGOs.
Whatever it is, the Overwatch community will no doubt be hard at work trying to figure out just what it could be in the meantime.
It’s clear Blizzard is sticking with Overwatch for the long haul, but what exactly is in store for 2019 remains to be seen.
