According to a Blizzard insider there could be a brand new Blizzard CEO J. Allen Brack said recently that the publisher is interested in expanding the Overwatch IP, and based on the latest leak, official news on a new game set in the Overwatch universe could be coming later this year.
The news about a new Overwatch game came in a report from Kotaku about a cancelled StarCraft first-person shooter game on Thursday, June 6.
“Overwatch 2” – No longer just a meme
In the report from Kotaku, unnamed staff from inside Blizzard confirmed that the StarCraft shooter was axed so teams could focus more on Diablo 4 and “Overwatch 2”.
Both games are expected to be headline announcements at this year’s BlizzCon, which didn’t go to well for the company last year after the disastrous Diablo Immortal announcement.
“Overwatch 2” has been a meme in the game’s community almost since it came out, but now it seems to have become the official unofficial name of the next game set in the Overwatch universe.

According to the sources inside Blizzard “Overwatch 2,” or whatever it ends up being called, will focus more on PvE elements, and Kotaku said several people inside of Blizzard have compared the upcoming game to Left 4 Dead.
What do we do until BlizzCon now?
Overwatch just began a Double XP Weekend that goes from June 6 to June 10 to close out the 2019 Anniversary event and it’ll be the last chance for players to get any event skins until Summer Games start in August.
Overwatch Director Jeff Kaplan promised more new content coming to Overwatch this summer along with a new hero, so fans at least have one new thing for sure to look forward to before BlizzCon starts in November.
Whatever “Overwatch 2” ends up being (please Jeff, don’t be a mobile game), it’s clear Blizzard is set on making more games set in the already popular Overwatch universe.
