A ridiculous back cap in Overwatch took an entire enemy team by surprise, resulting in one of the easiest wins recorded so far.
Capturing a point on Assault can take a lot of coordination from a team, but Reddit user ‘Cypherex’ made use of tight timing to trick the opposing squad and steal their chance to properly defend Objective B on Volskaya Industries.
While it might happen less in higher elos, firefights in Overwatch can overload the senses and confuse players enough to miss the obvious HUD elements. It’s during this time where Cypherex saw their opportunity to deal a killing blow.
“If you time your back cap to start right after Point A gets captured the enemy team won’t react to the capping noise,” they explained.
In their replay, you can see that the defending team is grouped outside of B exchanging shots with the attacking side.
Looks like they accepted that point A was lost, so they gave it up while staying close so as to not let the other team push too far in so soon.

That might have been why they didn’t react to the B indicator on their HUD notifying them that someone from the attacking team had made it to the point right behind them.
It also helped that Cypherex was on the new point immediately after point A was taken, since point B’s progress bar for being capped kind of blended in with all of the other effects happening on the screen.
In fact, Cypherex said: “After the match, one of the people on the defending team said they just thought Point A was taking a really long time to finish capturing for some reason and that they were way too high to pay attention.”
Only after the second point was well over halfway capped did the other time finally notice that someone was deep behind their frontline.
They realized too late that someone was capping the final point, leading to an easy win by a strat that’s sure to be employed by more players.
