Overwatch 2 console players are elated as mouse and keyboard cheaters have been dealt a big blow on PlayStation 5.
The conversation about players who use a mouse and keyboard in competitive console games meant for controllers has raged on for a long time. It’s not just in Overwatch 2 either. In games like Apex Legends and Call of Duty, it’s been a very hot topic, with many claiming justifiably, that it’s unfair.
However, news of a major development in the fight against MnK players on consoles has landed. The latest PS5 system software update seems to have disabled the ability to use one of the most prominent devices, the Cronus Zen, which makes mouse and keyboard useable on consoles. The device will now disconnect when players try to connect it.
This effectively makes the device useless. Other similar devices like the XIM Apex haven’t been hit yet, but it seems clear that Sony is evaluating taking out these kinds of adapters.
In Overwatch 2, where MnK has become rampant in higher levels of play on console, players appear particularly pleased.
Is console MnK on the chopping block in Overwatch 2?
In a Reddit thread with over 3.6k upvotes titled “Huge W from Sony”, players are expressing optimism that this could be the beginning of the end of console cheaters.
One user spoke about how this is affecting other games, saying, “99% of apex predators are crying too lmao.” Others took to pointing and laughing at scrambling cheaters, saying “They are fuming on r/cronus_zen, it’s so funny”.

One player simply posted: “Console Top 500 On suic*de watch”. This is because it’s believed that most players on the Top 500 leaderboard on console use mouse and keyboard.
One commenter remained skeptical though, saying, “Not exactly, anyone on Xbox or PS4 still can use them, along with other devices still being on the market. And cheaters always find another way, unfortunately”.
This is a sentiment shared by Cronus, who posted a message on their website confirming the device can’t be used on PS5. It’s clear they are looking for a solution, but they do admit, “it could be 24hrs, 24 days, 24 months, we won’t know until we’ve dug into it.”
There are other devices still out there, Xbox players will still be struggling, and Cronus is unlikely to accept this without trying to find a solution. As ever, the fight against cheats is never won, but instead ongoing.
That said, hopefully, it helps clear out Overwatch console lobbies a little bit and make everything more of a level playing field for everyone.
