During a recent broadcast, Overwatch streamer Emongg hinted that some big news might be coming for the game soon.
Emongg is one of Overwatch’s most veteran and popular content creators, and during a recent stream he heavily implied that fans could expect some exciting news from Blizzard quite soon.
While discussing the state of the game, Emongg made a show of suggesting that the developers could be revealing more about their plans in the next couple of weeks. While the streamer kept his statements fairly vague, he included several exaggerated winks to the audience, implying that there is more to his comments that mere speculation.
“I have a feeling that things will improve with Overwatch going forward. I don’t know how I know this, but I think things will improve. I don’t really know if they’re going to do anything, what’s going to be happening in general going forward. I’m hoping maybe in a couple of weeks or so we can start to see where their mindset is on things. Maybe even less than a couple weeks.”
Emongg has previously worked with Blizzard on promotional streams, such as having Game Director Jeff Kaplan on to discuss new features, so it’s certainly very possible that he could have insider knowledge of what the developers are planning.

Unfortunately, Emongg didn’t give any details regarding exactly what kind of announcements might be coming. If it’s accurate, however, the idea that more information may be coming in the next two weeks – and information that one of the game’s most popular streamers seems optimistic about – will be welcome news to many Overwatch fans.
Overwatch 2 doesn’t yet have an official release date, although there have been several potential leaks suggesting a 2020 launch. In the meantime, however, some players have been frustrated with the state of Overwatch.
While the game continues to see its usual schedule of seasonal events – the most recent of which, Lunar New Year, is currently live – these have remained largely the same for the last few years, and some fans have criticized the lack of truly new content. Meanwhile, due to the announcement of Overwatch 2, the game didn’t get a new hero at 2019’s BlizzCon.
With the current uncertainty around the timeline for Overwatch 2, it might be easy to feel like the current game is simply in limbo, waiting an undetermined period of time for its sequel. If nothing else, more insight from the developers should give players a better idea of what to expect over the coming year.
