Overwatch 2’s Clash mode is finally arriving after a brief playtest a few seasons ago, as 2CP’s true successor comes in full to the game. So here’s everything we know about the mode so far.
Clash is finally being officially released in Overwatch 2. Originally aimed to bring back some of the beloved 2CP maps we had beforehand, Clash pits teams in a battle to see who can capture the most control points in a tug-of-war style battle.
After its trial in Season 10 with Hanaoka, the mode is ready to be released, including two new maps to celebrate.
Overwatch 2’s Clash release date
Overwatch 2’s Clash mode will be released on 20 August 2024 in Season 12.
This comes after its limited-time playtest in Season 10. During the playtest, we only had one map, Hanaoka, but now on release, we’ll have two maps.
Clash rules and objectives
Overwatch 2’s upcoming Clash mode may have five capture points, but it’s more about a gradual victory and working toward one goal rather than scrambling around the map like Flashpoint. Rather, it’s a push-and-pull battle of who can capture the most points.
The map is mirrored, with each team contesting one point at a time in what’s essentially a big game of tug-of-war.
Teams can win in two ways. Either by capturing all five points, so depending on which side you’re on it’s until point A or E.
Or the first team to capture five points total before their enemy. They don’t need to have captured all the points on the map, just five separate points.

The devs claim Overwatch 2’s Clash mode is heavily defender-favored when it comes to those final points, so making it all the way to either A or E is extremely difficult.
And in our time playing it, most games have ended with either our or the enemy team capturing five points.
However, specifics of how the game mode will play out in the final version could change, as the devs said the limited-time trial will be an opportunity for them to make any necessary changes before it goes live into Quick Play and Ranked’s rotation.
Hanaoka and other Clash maps
Clash’s first iteration saw the arrival of Hanaoka, a map based somewhere in Japan. While there was only one map for the playtests, the devs have been hard at work and are ready to launch with a new map upon the game mode’s full release.
Clash’s second map sees a new side to the Temple of Anubis, called the Throne of Anubis, this map will allow you to discover the dangerous AI that caused the Omnic Crisis.
The map was teased back in Season 10 with Venture’s “discovery” of the site. This will be the first return to Egypt for Overwatch 2 after the former map was removed with 2CP.
With the devs seemingly continuing the trend of replacing older 2CP maps with new Clash ones, who knows where we might be headed next? We could be in Paris, Volskaya Industries, or maybe even the Lunar Horizon Colony.
