Overwatch fans hoping that Blizzard’s hero-based FPS would receive a mobile version have gotten their wish – sort of.
An Overwatch player found a way to play the PC version of the game on his mobile phone. Posting to Reddit, user ‘LockManipulator’ revealed how he was able to play the team-based shooter from anywhere he wants.
“Using steam link and custom on-screen touch controls, I can play from anywhere without even needing a controller,” the Masters-ranked player revealed. “Swipe on screen to look and tap screen to shoot.”
A video of the mobile gameplay showed LockManipulator loading up the training range to click heads as McCree.
A d-pad sits on the left side of the screen for movement, while the Q button for ultimates is placed directly over the charge meter in-game.
Additionally, players can choose to select their alternate fire with the MB2 button, or abilities with R and E.

That said, it’s unclear how switching weapons would work for heroes like Torbjorn and Mercy, nor how players could interact with Symmetra’s teleporter, for instance.
LockManipulator also provided a link to the custom on-screen touch controls, which, as it turns out, are also compatible with Minecraft.
According to the port maker, he played the arcade game “Tiny Overwatch,” and performed well by spamming orbs as Moira. The game even lets players open up chat and communicate with their team or the enemy.
The mobile gamer claimed that he was motivated after watching the viral video of Twitch streamer Rudeism playing Overwatch with a baguette.
While Overwatch on mobile may not be official, the closest thing to an actual portable version of the game is the Nintendo Switch port, which was released in 2019.
For those who can’t get enough Overwatch and want to earn some lootboxes on the go, it might be worth giving this version try. However, playing Competitive mode may prove to be a bit too daunting, especially when taking on opponents armed with a keyboard and mouse.
