The Overwatch 2 team has shared new information about which tanks were the best and worst at keeping teammates alive during the second beta and the results may surprise you.
Tanking in Overwatch is an important role that can be quite difficult for some players. By absorbing damage, leading the charge, making space and posing a huge threat on the front line, tanks are crucial to a team’s success.
As anyone who has ever played Overwatch will tell you though, some tanks just aren’t always a good fit depending on the map, the enemy team’s composition and their place in the meta.
With Overwatch 2, the developers moved the game from 6v6 to 5v5 with one less tank and new data shows just which ones are actually the best at their job.
Blizzard reveals Overwatch 2 tank data
In a new blog post, the developers shared an interesting piece of information: the death rates of other heroes while a certain tank was being played. Rejoice Roadhog mains, it turns out you’re not the problem after all.

The data revealed that Sigma was the best hero at keeping a team alive followed by Junker Queen, then a sizable jump to Zarya, Reinhardt then narrowly D.Va and Doomfist.
Tanks with the most difficulty keeping teammates alive and who saw the highest deaths were Roadhog at 6.30, Winston at 6.35, and then Wrecking Ball at 6.55.
While this data was collected to better understand how to better balance The Junker Queen, it does point quite the picture about which tanks may need additional tuning ahead of the game’s release on October 4.
Unfortunately, the developers confirmed there won’t be a third beta, so we’re going to have to wait a bit to see what they have cooking up, especially with new tanks already planned post-launch.
