Overwatch 2’s devs have given a sneak peek at what looks to be revamped ranked icons ahead of Season 9’s competitive overhaul.
Season 9 is heralding a lot for the ranked ladder, as the leaked patch notes indicate a massive shake-up to the meta with increased health pools alongside an unannounced rework to Pharah.
One of the biggest changes, however, is to ranked, with the devs announcing an overhaul to Competitve back at BlizzCon 2023. These changes look to address much of the feedback from players.
And it seems the devs have now given players a small teaser of what to expect, with a potential ranked icon redesign also coming alongside the overhaul.
The Overwatch YouTube channel scheduled up a premiere in which a trailer for “Season 9: Champions” will be released on February 7. And in the thumbnail, we see what seems to be a new rank emblem design.

It could either be a redesign of the existing ranked emblems, as it does bear a similarity to the current Platinum rank icon, or it could be the new Ultimate rank. However, we won’t know for certain until the trailer drops.
As for what Champions is slated to be, it is unknown. Though with FACEIT now taking over the esports scene for Overwatch, in which they promised a “seamless” automated connection to their platform, Champions could very well be that.
Season 9’s competitive overhaul is promising to do away with the 5 wins/15 loss system for every rank up, rather, moving towards a progression bar that updates after every match, akin to Valorant’s ranked mode.
The new rank, Ultimate, is slated to be a rank above Grandmaster, the current highest rank in Overwatch, as a way to distinguish players in the upper echelon of the ranked ladder.
