Overwatch 2 has been delayed again according to a new update from Blizzard, possibly being pushed back from a 2022 launch.
On November 2 during the Activision Blizzard’s Q3 Investor Call, Blizzard announced that Overwatch 2’s release would be pushed back again.
The same day the sequel was revealed two years earlier at BlizzCon 2019, fans got the news that they’d have even longer to wait for it to actually come out.
Overwatch 2 delayed again
In the release from Blizzard on November 2, the developer said the latest delay for Overwatch 2 and Diablo 4 were due to the amount of new leadership within the franchises teams.
“While we are still planning to deliver a substantial amount of content from Blizzard next year, we are now planning for a later launch for Overwatch 2 and Diablo IV than originally envisioned,” the update said.
Later in the call, Blizzard leader Mike Ybarra went into more detail about why the delay was happening.

As the initial announcement mentioned, Ybarra said new leadership let the publisher see where each game was in terms of development, which led them to deciding both needed more time to be worked on. This extra time, he added, would also help expand the development teams as well.
When will Overwatch 2 come out?
Before this announcement, Overwatch 2 was set to come out sometime in early 2022, but now that this window’s effectively been thrown out, there’s really no telling for sure exactly when the sequel will release.
But, according to Blizzard CFO Armin Zerza during the call the company wouldn’t be including Overwatch 2 or Diablo IV in their 2022 financial contributions. This could very well mean we’ll have to wait until at least 2023 for both games to come out.
After numerous delays already, this certainly is not good news for those of us hoping to play the sequel by 2022.
