Overwatch 2 has been hit with a massive DDoS attack, leaving some players unable to play and others even getting banned as a result of disconnecting.
Much like other online multiplayer games, Overwatch 2 is not immune to server issues. Of course, while this is something players don’t want to experience, sometimes it can happen to anyone regardless of how good their internet connection is.
Recently, many Overwatch 2 players have pointed to some extreme lag issues in their matches. Players have also reported that they kept getting disconnected from games and having extremely high ping to the point that the game was “unplayable.”
As it turns out, Overwatch 2 is indeed currently experiencing a DDoS attack as confirmed by Blizzard via a post on X. “We are currently experiencing a DDoS attack, which may result in high latency and disconnections for some players. We are actively working to mitigate this issue,” they wrote.
Unfortunately, a portion of the player base who played during this time weren’t so lucky. Some players have flocked to Reddit and X to express their frustration after getting banned from disconnecting from matches due to the DDoS attack.

“3 games in a row with multiple DCs on both sides. had to just log off, not coming back until the all clear,” said one user in a Reddit thread.
One user even mentioned that they got suspended for eight hours after getting removed from a competitive game twice. Meanwhile, another user on X claimed that they got suspended from all game modes due to the server, showing that the new leaver penalty updates have kicked in.
While it’s unclear when the server issues from the DDoS attack will be completely fixed, it’s made known that Blizzard is currently working on it, and some players are hopeful that they can get some compensation and jump back into the game as soon as possible.
