The Season 9 trailer showcases new Jade Weapons that players can earn, but the community doesn’t seem to like the idea.
Overwatch 2‘s Season 9 is still a few days away, but there’s already tons of new stuff that players can look forward to. Blizzard released the next season’s trailer earlier, showcasing overhauls to the ranked system, new Moira Mythic skin, Cowboy Bebop collab, and many others.
One addition that’s hard to go unnoticed in the trailer is the newly introduced Jade Weapons. It’s currently unknown how players can obtain these, but assuming they’re earned the same way as Gold Weapons, players may have to grind through ranked matches to purchase them.
Like Gold Weapons, Jade Weapons are purely cosmetic and changes the hero’s weapon color when equipped – regardless of their skin. While this addition gives more variety to the game, a portion of the player base doesn’t seem to welcome it well.
One player on Reddit has posted a video making fun of the idea, showcasing how the Jade Weapons were made “according to devs.” The clip showed them changing the weapon of a Doomfist model on a 3D application to what seems like a Metallic Green color.

Seeing this clip, players couldn’t help but share their thoughts. “The jade is so tacky bruh,” said one player. Meanwhile, another person wrote, “‘Jade,’ I’m guessing they’ve never seen a Jade irl or through photos.”
Agreeing with the OP, another user replied that the in-game Jade Weapons lean more to “metallic green” as opposed to having a “milky, semi-opaque quality” like a real jade that can also come in different shades.
“It would have been cool if they actually got a milky, semi-opaque stone look like imperial jade, rather than just a metal that’s green,” they suggested.
While many of the replies slammed the Jade Weapons as “tacky” and “hideous,” some players didn’t seem to mind them. “My favorite color is green so I’m loving it,” one user replied. In the same comment, one user claimed to like it and was excited to “get some janky green guns.”
