The Overwatch 2 devs are gearing up for the launch of Competitive 3.0 in Season 9 and shared some new details.
Season 9 of Overwatch 2 is fast approaching and in addition to new balance changes such as self-healing for DPS and tank heroes, there is also going to be a major update to ranked.
As revealed at BlizzCon, the Competitive 3.0 update will let players their rank change after every match and will feature the introduction of a new rank after Grandmaster known as ‘Ultimate.’
While a plethora of info is expected to be revealed in the weeks leading up to Season 9, a dev recently teased some details while popping into Twitch streamer Eskay’s chat.

As we had previously learned, players will need to complete ten placement games to begin and it sounds like those games are going to really matter.
“It will be more of a reset than it’s ever been, so you’ll still be against ‘good’ players,” the dev added. “But maybe more like Diamond to Top 500 good, depending.”
A ranked reset should allow players to get a new opportunity to rise up the ladder and could even make it harder for some to reach the new Ultimate rank.
With Season 9 almost here, expect a lot more details in the weeks ahead as the devs prepare for one of OW2’s biggest patches to date.
