An incredibly creative Overwatch fan has used the hero shooter to recreate the intro to the popular Nickelodeon animation Avatar: The Last Airbender, and it’s the best thing you’ll see all day.
The Last Airbender originally aired on Nickelodeon in 2005, and centered on a society where people ‘bend’ the four elements: water, earth, fire and air. However the protagonist of the show – a child monk named Aang – becomes the Avatar who can control all four elements, and is supposed to bring balance to the world.
The animation became a cultural phenomenon, and even spawned a popular spin-off in 2012 called The Legend of Korra. A talented Overwatch fan recreated the intro for the animation series, and perfectly nailed the show’s opening narration which sets up the lore.
Overwatch x Avatar
Reddit user ‘RobCee3‘ posted their trailer on the Overwatch subreddit, and creatively used four heros to represent each element: Mei as water, Sigma as earth, Torbjorn as fire, and lastly Lucio as air as the healer is supposed to be Avatar Aang.

The intro to the animation is narrated by one of the main characters in the show ‘Katara’, who set the stage for the epic tale by describing a world divided into four nations, and the fan trailer cuts to the global watchpoint map Gibraltar to represent that.
Hilariously, when the intro shows the Avatar controlling the four elements, the fan creation uses the tank hero Reinhardt’s shield and hammer to represent several of the elements, but resorts to spinning the character around quickly for air before cutting away.

The crossover impressively recreates each scene, even showing Lucio using his sonic amplifiers and wall-riding to represent the playfulness of Aang, before cutting to a shot from behind the hero posing which is how the animation intro ends.
While many fans hated M Night Shyamalan’s film adaptation of the Avatar, Netflix recently announced in 2019 that they plan to bring the popular show back in a live-action series, and even got creator Bryan Konietzko and Michael DiMartino on board.
The animation has amassed a rabid fan base, and has become a popular cult hit at conventions. Given that Overwatch is about heroes who wield various powers similar to bending elements, this seems to be the perfect crossover.
