An Overwatch cosplayer has created a stunning real-life version of Brigitte’s shield as part of Blizzard’s latest Overwatch Cosplay Battle.
Blizzard are running a second iteration of the Overwatch Cosplay Battle after the European version, which saw teams from six countries attempting to create the best cosplay of an Overwatch hero, proved a success.
This time, four teams from Australia and New Zealand will be competing, with an expenses-paid trip to this year’s BlizzCon on the line for the winning team.
One squad has already caught the community’s eye, however, as Team Victoria’s AltF4Cosplay revealed the incredible shield that will be part of their Cosplay of Brigitte’s “Shieldmaiden” skin.
It isn’t just the detail of the design that impressed viewers, however – AltF4Cosplay has successfully mimicked the glowing, translucent sections between the armor panels, which in-game are occupied by a similar barrier to Reinhardt’s shield.

Light testing for Brigittes shield. This is a CNC cut and etched piece of 3mm acrylic sheet, and using an Arduino and some 144 digital LEDs we created a lighting effect to replicate the swirly blue lights that you see in game. I'm excited!!#OWCosplayTeamVic@Blizzard_ANZ pic.twitter.com/Nc8kjEeJOF

As impressive as Team Victoria’s Brigitte cosplay is already looking, they’ll undoubtedly have some fairly stiff competition. Team South Australia are building a cosplay for Griefhardt Reinhardt, Team New South Wales are creating Socialite Ashe – complete with B.O.B. – and Team New Zealand will be cosplaying Reaper’s Lü Bu skin.
Once the cosplays are complete, a winner will be selected by a jury made up of Blizzard artists and industry professionals, although the community will also be able to have their say by voting for their favorite from October 7-11, with the winners announced on October 12.
