A creative Overwatch fan has made a completely original hero inspired by one of the game’s Deathmatch maps – Petra.
The last new Overwatch hero released was Baptiste, and it seems to have been just long enough ago for fans to start thinking about their own original heroes again.
So Overwatch fan and artist Armando Gonzalez-Dorta decided to share his original design for a hero named ‘Mesha’ that comes from the Deathmatch map Petra.
“You call this archeology?”
Mesha, besides looking very awesome, even comes with his own lore, which explains that he started out as an explorer who came across an old mask and put it on, before realizing an ancient Omnic was stored inside, which took over his body.
The mask is pretty creepy, and definitely the defining feature of the hero. For a weapon, Mesha has what looks like a grenade launcher with some kind of orange goo inside.
On his back is a container with the same goo, so it seems pretty likely that it’s at least one of the things his weapon can fire.

Gonzalez-Dorta even included an alternate skin for the hero that might somehow be even more unsettling than the original skin.
Overall the hero design looks great and like a hero you would want to avoid going 1v1 against in a dark back alley on Busan.
When does the next Overwatch hero come out?
Overwatch Director Jeff Kaplan confirmed that we would be getting Hero 31 sometime this summer, but he didn’t get any more specific than that.
We still have no concrete idea of what or who Hero 31 could be, but the mysterious Omnic featured at the end of the Storm Rising mission came out of nowhere as an early favorite.
Whatever or whoever Hero 31 ends up being, they’ll have a hard time being more intimidating than Gonzalez-Dorta’s ‘Mesha’.
