The 2023 Overwatch League season has come to an end with the Playoffs and the Grand Finals, both live from Toronto, and Florida Mayhem has been crowned the 2023 OWL Champions.
The 2023 OWL season has come to a close, and Florida Mayhem has written their name in the history books as 2023’s best team. The Playoffs saw various upsets, reverse sweeps, and stomps.
From Atlanta Regin’s elimination at the hands of underdogs Hangzhou Spark and London Spitfire, Spark’s unlikely back-to-back reverse sweeps to get first seed, and Florida’s dominant performance.
And with Florida’s win, it means the bottom four teams of Season One; San Francisco Shock, Shanghai Dragons, Dallas Fuel, and Florida Mayhem, all now have Championships to their name.

The 2023 Overwatch League Grand Finals was special in more ways than one. A team had the event as their homestand, which hasn’t happened since 2019. (The 2020 and 2021 finals were played online, while the 2022 event was held at the Anaheim Convention Center).
At the same time, the grand finals took place against the backdrop of the buzz around the future of the Overwatch League. After the event, all team owners will gather and vote on whether they will continue in the League. This could be the OWL’s swan song as Activision Blizzard considers implementing elements from other esports leagues into Overwatch esports.

The event took place from September 28 through October 1 at the Mattamy Athletic Centre, an indoor arena located in downtown Toronto, Canada. It can accommodate approximately 2,600 spectators for hockey matches and 3,000 for basketball matches.
