Overwatch players are already creating nicknames for Baptiste’s abilities

Baptiste has been live in Overwatch for less than a week, and players are already coming up with names for the heroes long ability names.

Baptiste was released to PC, Xbox, and PS4 on March 19 after spending roughly a month on Overwatch’s PTR.

Now that players have had the chance to try the newest support hero and his abilities out, some are already coming up with more convenient ways of referring to his abilities.

Possible nicknames for Immortality Field

A good number of players on Reddit, judging by upvotes, seem to think xlShadylx’s suggestion to call Baptiste’s Immortality Field “lamp” is a good start, plus it provides plenty of opportunity for “I love lamp” jokes mid game.

The lamp name, Shady wrote, was inspired by Overwatch Director Jeff Kaplan stories of Baptiste’s early development, when a literal lamp was used as the model for the Immortality Field generator.

“In a game last night, not even thinking about it, I said “hit the lamp!” as our Rip Tire was being sent in and everyone around instinctively started shooting at it,” Shady wrote on Reddit. “Afterwards they continued to call it the lamp. Quick and easy to say.”

Another popular suggestion for the abilities nickname was “drone”, which also makes plenty of sense, as far as nicknames go.

What is Immortality Field?

Immortality Field is one of Baptiste’s abilities, and it deploys a floating generator that prevents any ally within range from dying for eight seconds.

Whether or not the lamp nickname will catch on is up to Overwatch players, but it’s certainly easier to say than “Immortality Field”.

Baptiste won’t be available in competitive until Tuesday, April 2, which is plenty of time for players to figure out how they want to refer to both the hero and his kit.
