Overwatch players have been getting ready for this year’s Summer Games by creating their own in-game sports.
The Summer Games event is arriving on August 9, an in-game celebration of summer and sports originally created in honor of the 2016 Olympic Games.
With the exception of Lúcioball, which is only available as a Brawl in-game for the Summer Games, Overwatch doesn’t have any “official” modes that bear any resemblance to traditional sports, so to get into the sporting spirit some players have come up with their own alternatives.
With a bit of co-operation and some custom rules, one group of players managed to create a game of volleyball, Overwatch-style. Reinhardt’s shield acts as a net, and two Genji duos attempt to deflect Tracer’s Pulse Bomb over the top, keeping the ball in the air for as long as possible.

They weren’t the only ones coming up with creative games, however, as another group also showed off another style of game on a similar theme. In their version, two Mercy players set a “bar”, over which the conveniently-spherical Wrecking Ball is knocked back and forth by two Doomfist players.
As well as re-introducing Lúcioball, this year’s Summer Games event will also bring a new range of cosmetic items, of which four legendary skins have been revealed.
