An Overwatch player has created a beat sequencer using the Workshop that lets players create music in-game.
The Overwatch Workshop is a scripting system that gives players a huge amount of control when creating custom modes, allowing them to shape the game in ways that go way beyond the limits of the original custom game system.
As well as allowing players to produce unique new modes within the hero-based FPS framework of Overwatch, the Workshop has given creators the ability to produce modes that bear little resemblance to the standard game. Players have created everything from top-down bullet hell-style games to an Overwatch take on Mario Party.
Now, u/olipoulihot has taken the game in another direction, developing a mode featuring a beat sequencer that allows players to add a variety of sounds and adjust the tempo at which they’re played to create their own beats.
Those who wish to try this mode out for themselves can do so by importing it with the share code 3C1XV.

Obviously, the mode is fairly limited in what it can produce – aspiring artists will still have to use real music software – but it does make for another interesting demonstration of how much is possible using the Workshop.
The Overwatch Workshop was released to the Public Test Realm on April 24, and immediately saw a massive response from the community both throughout testing and in the weeks following its arrival on the live servers.
The feature was the first in a series of major changes and additions to Overwatch this year, having been followed by the Replays system and later the introduction of role queue, marking a fundamental change in how Overwatch is played.
Given that Blizzard often hold their biggest announcements for BlizzCon, the bar has been set fairly high for this year’s convention. There has been speculation, however, that the developers could be looking to top it with a reveal of the rumored “Overwatch 2”, believed to be a more PvE-focused game in the franchises’ universe.
