We’re not even a week into Overwatch 2 Season 9 and players have already managed to hit the new top rank ‘Champion’ despite the devs stating how hard it will be to reach.
Overwatch 2’s massive Season 9 balance patch completely revamped the game by increasing the size of projectiles, giving each hero more health, upgrading the ranked system and more.
As part of the launch of Competitive 3.0, the devs even added a new rank above Grandmaster called ‘Champion’ and warned that even the game’s best players would need to win a ton to reach the exclusive tier.
Well, just two days later, players have already managed to hit Champion resulting in the Server Engineer Morgan Maddren chiming in.
Overwatch 2 dev challenges players to hit Champion 1
Former OWL pro FDGod and Pharah specialist YZNSA were among the players to reach Champion 5, surprising the Overwatch community.
“And they said ‘we probably won’t see anyone reach Champion 1 this season,’” criticized one player.

“I thought it was supposed to be hard to get,” remarked another.
Well, even dev Morgan Maddren was a bit surprised by the outcome, posting on X about how he didn’t expect anyone to be able to hit Champion 5 this fast, but warned doubled down on just how difficult it is to go deeper in the tier.
“I’ll be very surprised if anyone hits C1 this month. C1 is way harder to reach than C5,” he revealed. “Let’s see if you all can prove me wrong.”
Knowing the Overwatch community, it won’t be long until someone is able to do just that, the only question is what player will go down in history as the first to hit Champion 1?
