Twitch streamer Jaryd ‘Summit1g’ Lazar is well-known for his proficiency in first-person shooter games – but he’s explained why, despite this, he will never play Overwatch.
Once a particularly skilled CS:GO player, Summit has more recently transferred his skills to the battle royale-inspired game Escape from Tarkov, which saw an increase in popularity due to streamers slowly moving away from Fortnite.
During his February 20 stream, Summit went into a long rant about the main issue with Overwatch, and how it affects other FPS titles too.
While playing Tarkov, Summit was asked if he’ll be playing Bethesda’s upcoming title Doom Eternal, asked if he “had what it takes” to do so. Summit was confident in his response but took the time to take a shot at Overwatch in the process.
“Do I have what it takes?” he asked sarcastically. “I can play every shooting game in existence and bring what it takes. Except for Overwatch, because I don’t like shields.”
Of course, Summit is referring to certain Overwatch characters who have shields as part of an individual or team defense, able to protect themselves from enemy gunfire.

He goes on to explain what he’s said, targeting not just Overwatch but other games with shields, too.
“I really do hate shields in every game known to man,” he said. “Counter-Strike comes out with riot shields, nobody likes them. Rainbow Six, who likes the shield guys? Anybody who likes playing FPS games and are playing guys like McRee, who do you not like? F**king Reinhardt, and all the dumb shields that go along with it.”
He also questioned the Halo shields, saying that “no one liked that,” though did go on to say that they were definitely the coolest of all the shields available.
While it may seem a somewhat trivial reason for refusing to ever play Overwatch, the sentiment isn’t exactly an uncommon one, with people in the chat agreeing with him and raging at shields in FPS games a frequent occurrence.
That said, we’re pretty sure that if Summit did have a go at Blizzard’s hero shooter, he would be just as dominant as he is in every other game he plays.
