Halloween Terror is one of Overwatch’s most popular seasonal events, and as we get further into October, it could be kicking off any day now.
Halloween Terror is one of the more popular events on the Overwatch seasonal calendar, but fans who have paid close attention over previous years will have noticed that the 2019 edition appears to be delayed.
While Blizzard don’t have an official schedule for in-game events, they do tend to be released around the same time each year – which in this case would have been almost a week ago around October 8-10.
As fans wait for the event to arrive, here’s everything we know so far about Halloween Terror 2019.
When does Halloween Terror 2019 start?
For most events up to now, Blizzard have stuck to a fairly consistent schedule each year, which usually means that looking at past release dates gives a fairly accurate idea of when to expect new content.
In this instance, however, the week that usually sees Halloween Terror released has already passed, suggesting that this year’s iteration is delayed.
Halloween Terror previous start dates:
- 2016 – October 11
- 2017 – October 10
- 2018 – October 9
While the former schedule no longer seems to hold – with this year’s Summer Games also having deviated, released several weeks earlier than usual – Halloween Terror could still be imminent. October 15 will also see the release of Overwatch on Switch, so it seems very possible that the event could coincide with this.
Overwatch events usually start on either Tuesdays or Thursdays, which makes Tuesday October 15 a likely candidate. The event typically runs for three weeks following its release.

Halloween Terror skins
Since 2016, Halloween Terror has provided some of the most popular skins in Overwatch, like Witch Mercy or Junkenstein’s Monster Roadhog.
Blizzard typically release previews for some skins in the days leading up to the event, but so far they’ve been silent ahead of this year’s Halloween Terror. At this point, it’s possible players may need to wait to see the new cosmetics in-game.
While we don’t know for sure who will get a new look, new heroes like Sigma, Ashe and Baptiste are all favorites since they haven’t been around for a Halloween event yet. In the absence of official news, fans have also been suggesting the kinds of skins they’d like to see this year.
Overwatch maps also get a spooky makeover for the event, and thanks to a leak from YouTuber Blame The Controller it seems like Junkertown will be getting an event reskin for Halloween this year.
Halloween Terror game modes
While new skins are the highlight for many players, the Halloween event is also expected to bring with it a limited-time game mode, Junkenstein’s Revenge.
Junkenstein’s Revenge is a PvE mode that sees teams of players take on waves of zombie omnics, as well as bosses including the Reaper, the Witch, and Dr. Junkenstein himself.
The mode has remained largely the same each year, although the new version is likely to introduce a minor update, with previous years having added new bosses or new heroes to play as.
