Does Overwatch 2 have crossplay & cross-progression?
Fans can rest assured that Overwatch 2 includes both crossplay and cross-progression. Players of the original had to wait years before these features were implemented, so it will be a relief to know that Overwatch 2 already supports both.
“Featuring a new five-versus-five multiplayer format with cross-platform play and cross-platform progression, PvP experience is designed to offer incredible and fresh competitive gameplay with a new, free-to-play model and major game updates such as new heroes, hero reworks, maps, modes, and premium cosmetics.”
How does crossplay & cross-progression work?
While it was once considered impossible, crossplay is now a popular feature that has reached many of the biggest titles over the past few years.
From Fortnite to Call of Duty, various communities have already been able to enjoy the freedoms of crossplay, and have their gameplay be transferable across different platforms.

Crossplay
Crossplay allows Overwatch 2 lobbies to seamlessly drop players from all platforms into a single lobby, improving matchmaking speeds and making sure that lobbies are always full.
It also means that friendship groups that are split across different consoles and PC can come together and play Overwatch 2 with ease. They can even invite each other to lobbies and search for a game together.
Cross-progression
As for cross-progression, this feature allows you to maintain a single BattleNet account across all platforms. For Overwatch veterans, five years of experience and cosmetic unlocks could be thrown out the window if you ever had to switch platforms.
Fortunately, players were given the opportunity to merge their accounts ahead of Overwatch 2’s launch, tying all cosmetics and experience to the one unified BattleNet profile. Now jumping into the sequel, progress can be made on any platform for the one shared account.
How to link BattleNet accounts for Overwatch 2?
If you’re going to make use of crossplay or cross-progression in Overwatch 2, the first thing you’re going to need is a BattleNet account that is linked to your platform(s). Check out how to link your Overwatch 2 Battle.net accounts below:
- Sign up for Battle.net if you don’t have an account already. New players can just sign in to their existing account.
- Click your account’s name in the top right corner of the screen.

- Connect your Battle.net to your Xbox Live, Playstation Network, or Nintendo account.
