Overwatch has rolled out seven new skins for heroes to start the 2019 Winter Wonderland event, and we’ve ranked them all from “just alright” to “must-have.”
We only got a look at one of the new skins before the event actually began, and that was Sigma’s “Rime” skin from BlizzCon 2019. So even though there are fewer new skins this year than previously, they were able to stay a surprise until just a few hours before the event actually began, so at least leaks didn’t ruin the surprise for absolutely everyone.
To help you decide which cosmetics to put on your wishlist this year we’ve ranked the 2019 Winter Wonderland skins from the least impressive, to the ones you don’t want to miss out on.
7. Holly Moira
Moira’s Holly skin is definitely Christmas themed with red, white, and green, but that’s honestly about the only thing it has going for it.
The skin’s color scheme doesn’t really mix well with Moira’s purple and gold abilities, and on top of it all, she just looks plain weird with green hair in this situation.
6. Snow Angel Mercy
Mercy’s new “Snow Angel” skin is a cute play on words, and a skin any Mercy main will probably be fine with, especially since it’s rewarded for free after winning nine games during the third week of the event.
There’s nothing really wrong with this skin, but it’s just a base skin recolor and doesn’t really have anything to make it pop out and be really unique.
5. Jötunn Doomfist
We’re getting to that point in the list where all of the skins are undoubtedly cool, but players might have a problem making a choice unless it’s for their main.

Unless you’re a big Doomfist fan (and/or Skyrim enthusiast), this skin doesn’t offer a whole lot, though we have to admit punching enemies into the wall with a giant ice fist does sound appealing.
4. Rime Sigma
Again, if you’re a Sigma player or a Lich King fan, this skin is definitely worth picking up because there’s no doubt the hero looks extremely badass in it.
This skin only loses points because Sigma’s Accretion ability is still just a regular old rock and not a giant ball of ice – definitely a missed opportunity there.
3. Mountain Man McCree
For any McCree player, this skin is a must have since it makes McCree look like a member of the Van Der Linde Gang circa the Red Dead Redemption 2 prologue level.
Jesse finally gets a frilly rawhide jacket, and the mysterious letters “BAFM” give this skin a little mystery for players to pore over as well.
2. Rat King Reaper
Rat King Reaper takes the number two spot because it was a total surprise, and it’s so ridiculous, it becomes an instant classic.
His royal vestments are a purple fit for a king, but the best part are the adorable little rat ears placed with care on top of his undeniably creepy mask.
1. Ugly Sweater 76
Last but certainly not least is the most festive new skin, and possibly the most holiday cheeri-inducing cosmetic ever added to Overwatch’s Winter Wonderland.
The best part about Ugly Sweater 76 is that he’s available for completely free during the first week of the event – all you have to do is win 9 games before December 16.
