Popular Twitch streamer and former pro player Felix ‘xQc’ Lengyel took a break from streaming Overwatch after his latest account suspension, and has now explained that the game is “dead” on Twitch.
When playing Overwatch, xQc was often the most popular channel in the game’s category on Twitch, regularly bringing in over 10,000 concurrent viewers.
However, he was as popular for his personality as he was his gameplay, and so after his Overwatch account suspension on November 16, he said he was “done” with the game.
Since then, xQc has become what is often referred to as a ‘variety’ streamer, playing various games and doing different activities on stream, with the viewers more interested for the streamer individually, rather than a specific game.
However, along with xQc, a number of the other most popular Overwatch streamers have been playing and broadcasting the game less, as he points out.
While discussing the popularity of ‘casual CS:GO’, xQc said “Overwatch is also dead, you’re not wrong”, saying that many streamers had lost interest: “Normally, at this time of day you’d have Dafran online, you’d have Seagull online”, showing the game at 20th on the overall Twitch categories.

According to Twitch statistics site Sullygnome, Overwatch has seen an overall viewership decline in the last 30 days, although it is not that extreme.
However, it is certainly far behind many of the most popular games on Twitch, with of course battle royale title Fortnite leading the pack.
The return of the Overwatch League for the 2019 season should help boost overall interest and certainly the average Twitch viewership though, so despite xQc’s pessimism, there is still lots to look forward to for Overwatch fans.
