Astegon is a powerful Pal who can be ridden as a Mount in Palworld and also has the chance to drop some great loot, so here’s where to find and catch one in the game.
Alongside improving your base and gathering materials to survive in Palworld, catching new Pals is a core part of the experience and each Pal in the world has a specific purpose, whether it’s for work, combat, or traversal.
Astegon is a great Pal to have, as his Level 4 Mining makes it one of the best Pals for the job. Even more so, it’s a fantastic flying Mount that excels in battle. Finding and catching Astegon can be tricky though, so this is how to get one.
Where to find Astegon in Palworld
Astegon can be found either inside the Destroyed Mineshaft in the Volcanic region of the map or at the No.3 Wildlife Sanctuary.
The entrance to the Destroyed Mineshaft can be found near the Mount Obsidian fast travel point. However, it can be difficult to spot, so the exact coordinates you’ll need are -576, -421.
The No.3 Wildlife Sanctuary is located to the far northeast just off the Glacier area of the map but you’ll need a flying Pal to get there as it’s separated from the mainland. The closest fast travel point is the Deep Sand Dunes, so it shouldn’t be too far a journey if you’ve got that unlocked already.
How to catch it
Since Astegon is a Dark Dragon type, it’s weak to Ice or fellow Dragon Pals. So to make it easier on yourself, it’s best to bring along Pals of those types to give yourself the best advantage when trying to catch one.
We would particularly recommend bringing strong Ice Pals to face Astegon such as Penking, Cyrolinx, or even the Legendary Pal Frostallion if you’ve got one.

How to breed Astegon
Another way to get Astegon in Palworld is by breeding. To do this, you simply need to place both Pals in your breeding farm, move the Egg into the Egg Incubator, and then wait for it to hatch. The following breeding combos will result in an Astegon for your collection:
- Jormuntide + Bellanoir
- Elizabee + Bellanoir
- Reptyro + Bellanoir
- Jormuntide Ignis + Bellanoir
- Mammorest + Bellanoir
Astegon skills
As well as having a Level 4 Mining, and Level 1 Handiwork work suitability, Astegon can also learn the following active skills in Palworld:
Skills | Description | Requirements |
---|---|---|
Black Ankylosaur (Partner Skill) | Can be ridden as a flying mount. Increases damage dealt to ore while mounted. | Requires an Astegon Saddle that can be crafted at Level 47. |
Dragon Cannon | Hurls an energy ball imbued with draconic energy at an enemy. | Level 1 |
Spirit Flame | Fires three balls of malice that relentlessly pursue an enemy. | Level 7 |
Dragon Burst | Quickly discharges draconic energy, damaging those around it. | Level 15 |
Nightmare Ball | Creates a giant ball of darkness and hurls it at an enemy. | Level 22 |
Draconic Breath | Exhales breath imbued with draconic energy, dealing continuous damage to those in front of it. | Level 30 |
Dark Laser | Charges dark energy before blasting enemies with a powerful beam. | Level 40 |
Dragon Meteor | Calls down numerous small meteorites and launches them at an enemy. | Level 50 |
What loot does it drop?
When you defeat or catch Astegon, it has a chance to drop either Pal Metal Ingots or Pure Quartz.
Metal Ingots are a handy crafting resource that can be used to build important late-game items including Pal Metal Armor, Legendary Spheres, and Rocket Ammo.
Pure Quartz is used to craft Circuits for electric machines.
