Pokemon Go players have noticed the evolution process for Annihilape isn’t working as intended in Niantic’s mobile game, with some receiving the wrong monster altogether.
Mankey and Primeape go back to the very start as part of the original Gen 1 Pokedex, though in Gen 9 the evolution chain was given another form.
Its final form, a Fighting/Ghost, is called Annihilape and is a pretty good monster to have on your team in Pokemon Go.
However, after one player tried to evolve Primeape to get one on January 22, they were given a big shock.
Primeape evolution bug gives Pokemon Go player a shock
As seen on the mobile game’s subreddit, one user was in the process of getting a new CP 1234 Pokemon, until something very surprising happened.
Standing in the wrong place was a Shiny Espeon, or what some fans have dubbed a “cursed” Annihilape form. In reality, it appears a visual glitch has occured.

These issues are not uncommon and have produced some very interesting alternate designs in the past, including rainbow-colored designs.
Now, if you’re not lucky enough to own any Shiny Pokemon, it would be a huge blow to see one on the screen and for it to not be stored in your inventory afterward.
One user advised: “Free shiny? Hell yeah you should do it.”
It seems there is an issue with the evolution that’s affected more than one player, too. Another user responded: “I just evolved mine, and now I get nothing but a blank screen where Annihilape should be.”
It was later fixed, they say, meaning that any temporary issues blocking the evolution – or offering a completely different Pokemon – were short-lived. So, would you roll the dice and try keeping Umbreon?
