Pokemon Go features every Eevee evolution, providing players with an abundance of choices. If you have a favorite, here’s how to acquire each Eeveelution in Niantic’s game and how to pull off the Eevee name trick.
The 8 Eevee evolutions are available in Pokemon Go, but with so many different options, it’s not immediately obvious how to get them all because – just like in the main series games – each Eeveelution has different requirements.
Whether you’re drawn to the fiery energy of Flareon or the icy coolness of Glaceon, you’ll need at least one of each if you want to complete the Pokedex. So, here’s a rundown of exactly how you can get all the Eevee evolutions in Pokemon Go.
How to evolve Eevee in Pokemon Go
In Pokemon Go, Candy is the basic requirement for every evolution, no matter what. With Eevee, even though there are 8 different Eeveelutions, all of them require you to feed your Eevee the same amount: 25 Candy.
Players can gather Eevee Candy through different methods:
- By capturing the Pokemon in the wild.
- Hatching it from Eggs (2, 5, 7, or 10 km – depending on the Egg rotation).
- Defeating it when it appears as a Tier 1 Raid Boss.
- By completing certain Research Tasks.
Once you have the required amount of Candy, there are two roads players can follow to evolve their Eevee.
The first one is the nickname trick. It’s the easiest and most used method as it assures you get the Eeveelution you’re looking for without you doing much. The second one requires you to follow certain steps before evolving the Pokemon, but even though it sounds more fun, it can also be quite tedious.
Eevee evolution name trick in Pokemon Go
This method requires you to change the name of the Eevee you’re trying to evolve for the nickname of the evolution you want. The nicknames you’ll need to rename your Eevee to for each evolution are as follows:
EEVEELUTION | SPRITE | NICKNAME |
---|---|---|
Flareon | Pyro | |
Jolteon | Sparky | |
Vaporeon | Rainer | |
Espeon | Sakura | |
Umbreon | Tamao | |
Leafeon | Linnea | |
Glaceon | Rea | |
Sylveon | Kira |
Using the nickname trick is by far the easiest way to get the Eeveelution you want, but you can only do it once per Eevee evolution. Every following one will require a different approach.
How to rename Eevee
To rename your Eevee, simply follow these steps:
- Tap the Pokeball from the main screen to open your main menu.
- Go into the ‘Pokemon‘ section.
- Search for your Eevee and open its page.
- Tap the pencil icon next to its name and type the nickname you’ve chosen.
- Press ‘Ok‘.
If you’ve done things correctly, you’ll see the silhouette of the Eeveelution you’re trying to get next to the ‘Evolve’ button. If it matches, you can go ahead and press ‘Evolve’ to trigger the process.

How to evolve Eevee into Flareon, Jolteon & Vaporeon in Pokemon Go
There’s no surefire way to get Flareon, Jolteon, or Vaporeon outside the single-use name trick, as it’s completely random when you hit the evolve button.
This means you’ll need to be very lucky to get the one you want on your first try. To get them all, you’ll need to catch multiple Eevee and stock up on lots of Candy, as the evolution costs 25 Candy every time.
How to evolve Eevee into Umbreon & Espeon in Pokemon Go
Unlike the previous evolutions, Umbreon and Espeon don’t evolve from Eevee at random. They require specific actions to get them:
- Espeon: For this Psychic type, you’ll need to make Eevee your Buddy and walk 10km with them. After this, the ‘Evolve’ button should show the silhouette of Espeon during the day.
- Umbreon: The method is almost identical to Espeon, requiring you to walk 10km with Eevee. However, you need to evolve Eevee at night instead to get Umbreon. You can tell if it’s considered nighttime because the in-game sky will be dark.
How to evolve Eevee into Leafeon & Glaceon in Pokemon Go
To evolve the Gen 4 Eeveelutions, Leafeon and Glaceon, you’ll need specific Lure Modules that can be purchased from the in-game shop for 200 PokeCoins or earned through Research tasks.
Here are the steps you need to follow to get these Eeveelutions:
- Leafeon: Go to a nearby PokeStop and place a Mossy Lure Module on it. Make sure you’re in range, then search for your Eevee and hit the ‘Evolve’ button.
- Glaceon: Find a nearby PokeStop and place a Glacial Lure Module on it. Make sure you’re in range, then search for your Eevee and hit the ‘Evolve’ button.
How to evolve Eevee into Sylveon in Pokemon Go
The first step to get Sylveon is to make Eevee your Buddy.
After making Eevee your Buddy, you have to earn 70 Hearts with it to achieve Best Buddy status before you can evolve it into the Fairy-type Sylveon.
You can earn Hearts with your Buddy by feeding them treats, playing with them, walking long distances together, battling, taking snapshots, and spinning new PokeStops or Gyms.
That’s everything you need to get all the Eevee evolutions in Pokemon Go. If you’re wondering which Eeveelution is the best, we’ve ranked them all right here, as well as the ultimate competitive Pokemon and Mega Evolutions.
