If you’re struggling to catch a Bagon in Pokemon Go, here are all the details to get this iconic Dragon-type in Niantic’s game, including how to evolve it into the mighty Salamence.
Bagon first appeared in Pokemon Ruby & Sapphire and was quite difficult to track down. The only place you could catch one was by visiting a specific room in Meteor Falls, and you needed the Surf ability to get there.
Even though its appearances are much more frequent in Pokemon Go, some trainers still have difficulty finding one to add to their collection. Thankfully, Bagon is returning to 1-Star raid battles, so here’s all you need to know to catch one in the game.

How to get Bagon in Pokemon Go
Bagon has been part of Pokemon Go since Gen 3 was released into the game back in 2018. However, many players still haven’t gotten one because of its low spawn rate. Currently, there are four ways you can find Bagon in Pokemon Go:
- As a wild encounter
- As a Tier 1 Raid Boss
- As a reward for completing the Field Research Task “Make 2 Excellente Throws: World of Wonders”
- Rescue Shadow Bagon from Team GO Rocket Grunts (“ROAR!… How’d that sound?”)
The Ultra Space Wonders event will bring back Bagon as a 1-Star raid battle boss from May 23, 2024, until May 28, 2024. So it’s the perfect opportunity to get a Bagon and gather plenty of Candy to evolve it all the way to Salamence and its Mega Evolution.
Bagon used to hatch from 2 km, 5 km, 7 km, and 10 km Eggs, and players could also rescue its Shadow version from Team GO Rocket leader, Arlo. It also appeared in the GO Snapshot mode during the April 2024 Community Day Classic.
Can Bagon be Shiny in Pokemon Go?
Yes, Bagon can be Shiny in Pokemon Go, as this special variation was included in the game during a Community Day back in 2019.
Now that Bagon will be featured during the Ultra Space Wonders event, players will have increased chances of finding a Shiny Bagon, which can be easily recognized by its green body.

Bagon’s evolution line is quite straightforward, as it doesn’t require special methods, items, or tasks, just Candy.
To evolve Begon into Shelgon, you need to feed it 25 Candy. To then turn Shelgon into Salamence, you have to use an extra 100 Candy.
Once you have Salamence, you can gather 300 Mega Energy to evolve it into Mega Salamence. After that first Mega Evolution, the required Mega Energy will drop to 60, then 30 and finally 15.
