Gen 1 Pokemon are some of the favorite creatures among hardcore fans, and the cute fox Vulpix is no exception. Whether you’re in the hunt for one with perfect IVs or are trying to get its Shiny version, here’s all you need to know to get Vulpix in Pokemon Go.
Pokemon Go is filled with countless species from many of the franchise’s mainline video games, such as Vulpix, the Fire-type fox from the Kanto region.
This small creature is best known as Brock’s companion in the anime. It was given to him by Suzie in episode 28 and then returned in episode 169.
However, despite how harmless it looks, it can turn into a very strong Fire-type Pokemon once it evolves into Ninetales.
If you’re on the lookout for one of these or you just want its Shiny variation, here’s all you need to know about Vulpix and its upcoming Spotlight Hour in the game.

How to get Vulpix in Pokemon Go
There are currently two ways to obtain a Vulpix in Pokemon Go:
- As a wild encounter.
- In Tier 1 Raid battles.
Previously, Vulpix hatched from 5 km and 7 km Eggs, and appeared as a reward for completing Field Research Tasks like “Catch 5 Pokemon with Weather Boost” or Special Research Tasks such as “The Seasons Change: Part 1”. Additionally, players were able to rescue a Shadow Vulpix from the Team GO Rocket from February 2023 to January 2024.
Now, thanks to the upcoming Spotlight Hour, trainers will have an increased chance of catching this Pokemon on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, from 6:00 PM until 7:00 PM local time, alongside fellow Poliwag, Hipopotas, and Snorunt.

How to evolve Vulpix into Ninetales in Pokemon Go
Luckily for players looking to evolve Vulpix into Ninetales, there are no special requirements, items, or Buddy tasks to fulfill in this evolution process. All they need to do is give Vulpix 50 Candy and that’s it.
To earn more Candy, use Pinap Berries when catching this Pokemon, so you’ll earn double. Additionally, you can transfer your extra Vulpix to Professor Willow or put it as your Buddy.
Can Vulpix be Shiny in Pokemon Go?
Yes, Shiny Vulpix is available in Pokemon Go, as it was added to the game back in 2020.
Unlike its original reddish-brown pelt, the alternate form has a yellow body with light orange tails, so you’ll be able to recognize it immediately.
During the March 19, 2024, Spotlight Hour, you’ll have an increased chance of running into a Shiny Vulpix, as well as Shiny versions for Poliwag, Hipopotas, and Snorunt.
That’s everything you need to know about Vulpix in Pokemon Go, as well as whether or not you can find its Shiny version. For more game content, check our other guides:
