Trainers looking to catch’em all in Pokemon Sword and Shield are going to have to do much more than run around in the long grass. If you want Null, or its evolved form Silvally, you will need to know where to look.
The pair were added to the Pokedex in the previous generation, Gen 7, and are both synthetic Pokemon – something that really does set them apart from the rest, as they’re not a natural species.
Once Null has been evolved into Silvanny, its trainer will have various options as to what form they would like it to take, depending on the item it carries. More on that later, though… Let’s just focus on how to get one of them for now.
Null location in Pokemon Sword and Shield
Just like a few others in the Galar Region Pokedex, Null has been available in previous games – Pokemon Sun, Moon, Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon.
Those who played those games will remember that the only way to obtain one of these Pokemon was to receive it as a gift and that’s exactly how it works again in Sword and Shield. But, where do you receive it?
Once you have completed either of the two new games, you will be able to access the Battle Tower facility. As soon as you enter the main doors, turn to your left and you will immediately see a trainer standing alongside Null in the lobby.
Head over towards her and strike up a conversation. From there, they will congratulate you on your victory in the Pokemon League and present you with your first ever Null in the Galar Region.
For those who haven’t already completed the game, this might be a bit of a downer at first, but at least now you know how to get ahold of this normal-type Pokemon. As this is the only way of getting your hands on one, it goes without saying that it’s one of the rarest the games have to offer.

How to evolve Null into Silvally
These might well be synthetic Pokemon, but that doesn’t mean that they don’t evolve just like any other species.
However, the way their evolution works is slightly different. You will have to increase the happiness value of Null to at least 220 for it to transform into its evolved form.
If you don’t know how to do this just yet, check out our guide for increasing Pokemon happiness fast in Sword and Shield. Just to name a few methods, feeding them specific berries and applying certain items will help.
Once you have reached that number (220) your Null will evolve and Silvally will be checked off on the Galar Region Pokedex. While these two might be very rare, the process of getting them isn’t too difficult – as you now know.
There are also a number of different forms Silvally can take up, all of which can be found in the list below. What form it takes will depend on the item it is carrying.
All Silvally forms and how to get them
- Normal – No item
- Bug – Bug Memory item
- Dark – Dark Memory item
- Dragon – Dragon Memory item
- Electric – Electric Memory item
- Fairy – Fairy Memory item
- Fighting – Fighting Memory item
- Fire – Fire Memory item
- Flying – Flying Memory item

- Grass – Grass Memory item
- Ground – Ground Memory item
- Ice – Ice Memory item
- Poison – Poison Memory item
- Psychic – Psychic Memory item
- Rock – Rock Memory item

Clearly, having a Pokemon such as Silvally is not only good to tick off another box in your Pokedex, but is also a really adaptable species that could prove to be a mainstay in your team moving forward.
One battle it might be a fire-type, and the next… Water! Not many Pokemon can do that.
