The Bug/Water Wimpod might not look like much, but its evolution, Golisopod, can be a great addition to any Pokemon Go team. Here’s how you can get and evolve Wimpod, and whether or not it can be Shiny.
Wimpod was introduced in Gen 7’s Alola region and made its way into Pokemon Go back in 2022 during the TCG Crossover event, which gave fans of the franchise the first chance at getting the Bug/Water creature.
Even though it doesn’t look like a strong Pokemon, Wimpod has a powerful evolution, but getting it can take a while.
Now that this tiny bug is coming back to Raid battles thanks to the Spelunker’s Cove event, here’s all you need to get Wimpod and evolve it into Golisopod in the game.

How to get Wimpod in Pokemon Go
Over the time Wimpod has been part of the game there have been many different ways players can find it. However, currently there are only two:
- As a wild encounter.
- As a Tier 1 Raid boss (during the Spelunker’s Cove event).
The Spelunker’s Cove event will run from June 15, 2024, until June 18, 2024, giving players the chance to challenge Wimpod on 1-Star Raid battles as many times as they want. Crabrawler and Jangmo-o will also be available during that time.
Previously, players were able to hatch Wimpod from 2 km Eggs and also get it as a reward for completing Field Research Tasks such as “Catch 7 Pokemon: Hidden Gems” or from Collection Challenges like “Tiny Treasures”.
Can Wimpod be Shiny in Pokemon Go?
Yes, Wimpod can be Shiny in Pokemon Go, as this special version was recently added to the game during the Sizeable Surprises event that took place in April 2024.
Trainers can recognize Shiny Wimpod by red tones replacing its usual purple ones, so it shouldn’t be hard to spot. However, it’s worth noting that finding a Shiny variation in the game is tough, as there’s no method or special item to guarantee an encounter.

As a two-member family, the evolution process for Wimpod is quite straightforward, as there’s only one step and it doesn’t need any particular methods, special items, or buddy tasks. However, it does require a bit of work.
To evolve Wimpod into Golisopod, you must feed it 400 Candy.
If gathering 100 Candy was already hard, getting 400 is a titanic task, but players can take advantage of the event to take on as many Wimpod as they can.
Additionally, they can use Pinap Berries to duplicate the Candy per catch, send their extra Wimpod to Professor Willow in exchange for this consumable, and even take it for a walk after setting it as their buddy.
