Pokemon trainers wanting to add Legendaries Mew and Mewtwo to their rescue team in Mystery Dungeon DX for Nintendo Switch have come to the right place – we’ve got everything you need to know.
On March 6, The Pokemon Company and Nintendo released Mystery Dungeon DX – a Switch remake of the 2005 games for Game Boy Advance. While there were new features added such as autosave and the ability to Mega Evolve, many old ones returned too – including Legendary monsters.
Two of the Legendaries making a comeback are Mew and Mewtwo from Generation I, though as expected, recruiting them is no walk in the park. Instead, trainers will need to put some work in to have them on their team – but we’re here to make it easier.
How to recruit Mew in Mystery Dungeon DX
With Mew being such a rare monster, it’s hardly a surprise that players won’t be able to walk up and have him join just like that. Firstly, you’ll need to have beaten the main story campaign, so go and do that first. You’ll also need to unlock the Final Island camp for 9,000CP, and it’s highly recommended that you get the Friend Bow from floor 30 of Mt. Faraway first as it boost your recruitment rate by 10%.
After that’s finished, trainers need to head to the Stormy Sea and take on Kyogre, who is the Legendary from Generation III’s Sapphire and Alpha Sapphire. A few in-game days later, you’ll receive a letter in the mail talking about the Buried Relic location, so talk to Shifty and Lombre in Pokemon Square in order to unlock it.

Once in the dungeon, defeat Regirock, Regice, and Registeel on floors 15, 25, and 35 and you’ll be given a Music Box item which causes Mew to be summoned randomly between floors 36 and 99. As with all encounters, the recruitment is random so it might take a few tries before he’s willing to join your team.

How to recruit Mewtwo in Mystery Dungeon DX
Like before, players will need to have beaten the story campaign. Once that’s done, you’ll have to work your way through the post-game missions until you unlock Mt. Faraway and beat Ho-Oh, which then unlocks the Western Cave.
The dungeon only has 20 floors in DX as opposed to the 99 in the GBA version, so it’s a lot easier this time around and makes your hunt for the Legendary less time-consuming. Though, you’ll want to be at least level 50 before attempting it.
Mewtwo can be found on the top floor, and unlike Mew, can be recruited without spending money on a camp first as it creates its own. He also will join you automatically upon defeat.
Mewtwo is also capable of Mega Evolving into two different forms temporarily (his X & Y forms) making him a top choice to have in your rescue team.
In order to evolve him, you’ll need to obtain an Empowerment Seed. You can find out how to do so in our handy guide.
