Niantic have announced they are changing the times for Pokemon Go Community Days in the Northern and Southern Hemispheres.
For many Pokemon Go players, Community Days are the highlight of the month. Trainers often arrange their availability for Community Days around work and various other commitments.
As most of you know, the monthly event is spread over just a three-hour period on a particular day, meaning being available for that small time frame is an absolute must. This is why trainers were so desperate for more notice on Community Day dates earlier in 2019.
Fortunately, Niantic heard this feedback and have been announcing Community Day dates with much more notice. As of yet though, they haven’t announced anything beyond January in 2020.
Different times for Northern and Southern Hemisphere
For the first time, the Pokemon Go January Community Day will have two different starting times. These will be split between the Northern and Southern Hemispheres.

- Northern Hemisphere—Sunday, January 19, 2020, from 11am to 2pm in your local time zone.
- Southern Hemisphere—Sunday, January 19, 2020, from 3pm to 6pm in your local time zone.
“The safety and wellbeing of our Trainers is of the upmost importance,” the official Pokemon Go blog states. As a result, these new times are presumably an effort to make sure the Community Days are held within optimal daylight hours. Trainers will remember that previous Community Days were held between the hours of 3am and 6pm.
Times changing going forward?
The question will be “will these time changes remain going forward?” but Niantic didn’t indicate either way whether they would.

However, they do say they look forward to continued feedback, suggesting the decision may still be up in the air. There will be more changes than just Community Day times to look forward to in Pokemon Go in 2020, though.
