Solgaleo and Lunala are available in Pokemon Go, but the process of obtaining them can be quite long. Here’s all you need to know about the Cosmoem evolution to get both Legendaries in the game.
Gen 7 mascots, Solgaleo and Lunala, were introduced into Pokemon Go during the Season of Light’s Astral Eclipse event back in 2022. However, unlike most Legendaries, they can only be obtained through the evolution method.
Players looking to get the Pokemon Sun & Moon Legendaries must complete a set of special requirements to achieve the evolution involving the Alolan Psychic-type Legendary, Cosmog, and here are all the details needed.

How to get Solgaleo & Lunala in Pokemon Go
In the main series games, Solgaleo and Lunala were exclusive to their own games (Sun & Moon respectively), but what happens when both are available in Pokemon Go?
Players can get both without exchanging them with other players, as in the mainline games. However, getting Solgaleo and Lunala can be tricky as they must be evolved from a Cosmog.
Getting two Cosmog is the difficult part of the process, as this Legendary is only available in the game through Special Research Tasks such as “A Cosmic Companion” or “Starry Skies“.
How to evolve Cosmog into Cosmoem, Solgaleo & Lunala in Pokemon Go
Before getting these two Legendaries, players must evolve Cosmog into Cosmoem. To evolve Cosmog into Cosmoem, you must feed it 25 Candy. Once you have Cosmoem, you have two options:

- To evolve Cosmoem into Solgaleo, you must have 100 Cosmog Candy and evolve during the day.
- To evolve Cosmoem into Lunala, you must have 100 Cosmog Candy and evolve at night time.
As Cosmog has yet to spawn in the wild, there are only two ways to acquire the 125 candy needed for each evolution: by completing the steps of the Special Research Tasks mentioned above or by setting Cosmog or Cosmoem as your buddy and going for a walk.
Can Solgaleo & Lunala be Shiny in Pokemon Go?
No, Solgaleo and Lunala cannot be Shiny in Pokemon Go as Shiny Cosmog hasn’t been introduced into the game yet and they can only be obtained through evolution.
Both Shiny Solgaleo and Shiny Lunala have one of the most outstanding looks thanks to their whole bodies turning an intense shade of red.
