Pokemon Go friend codes – The best way to maximize XP?

Pokemon Go Friends isn’t just a feature to add friend codes but is an excellent way to maximise XP and receive gifts. Here, we discuss the intricacies and how to make the most of sharing trainer codes in Pokemon Go.

The purpose of Pokemon Go friends

The friends feature within Pokemon Go was first introduced in June 2018.

The main purpose of Pokemon Go Friends is to allow you to connect with your close friends in order to track their progress and trade Pokemon. In addition to this, with the recent implementation of Pokemon Go Trainer Battles, this is a way to be able to battle friends instantly.

There are two other reasons to share and receive Pokemon Go trainer codes. Firstly, you can send and receive gifts (more on this below). Secondly, there are additional bonuses when battling together in gym/raid attacks. There is also the added bonus of spending less Stardust when trading.

Best and quickest way to get XP?

To take advantage of the discounted Stardust and bonuses during gym/raid attacks, you need to level up your friends. There are varying levels of friends: good friend, great friend, ultra friend and best friend. It takes 40 days to go from friend to best friend.

The best way to go from friend to best friend is through sending and receiving gifts. Essentially you need to interact with each friend each day. The other interaction methods are the aforementioned participating in a gym/raid together and trading Pokemon.

At the moment you can send up to 100 gifts a day and receive 20, although this has increased until August 19 as part of the Pokemon Go gift event. Using the 20 figure though, this means that over a 90 day period you can obtain 120 best friends.

Each best friend results in 163,000 XP. Therefore, over this 90 day period you can earn nearly 20 million XP from sending and receiving gifts alone! This doesn’t even include XP from potential eggs within gifts!

Naturally if you’re spending time doing this then you’re trying to get as much XP in as short time as possible. As a result, it’s important not to send or open gifts from any friend you have already leveled up with that day. A blue border around their picture signifies this.

Another method of getting as much XP as possible is to simply get to good friend status, stop there and do the same with other friends. This is a little more complicated and would require a lot more management.

The following XP is received for each level of friend on Pokemon Go:

• Good Friend: 1 day – 3,000 XP
• Great Friend: 7 days – 10,000 XP
• Ultra Friend: 30 days – 50,000 XP
• Best Friend: 90 days – 100,000 XP

These XP numbers can be doubled if you level up when a lucky egg is activated.

How to add friends in Pokemon Go?

For those new to Pokemon Go or have yet to play around friends codes, here are some instructions how to add friends.

1. Click on your profile picture
2. Click the friends tab and then click add friend
3. Here you can enter someone’s Trainer Code and see your own

To add someone as a friend there trainer code is required. It is also important to note there is a current limit of 200 friends.
